How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

A smile lasts a lifetime; at least, it's meant to. But as we grow older, if they are not looked after properly, teeth start to decline in appearance. They can become yellow from the loss of enamel over the years. Some teeth may even have signs of decay. On the other hand, there may be unwanted gaps, chips in the teeth, or the teeth are misshapen.

However, if these things happen to your teeth, dental veneers are a great way to restore your smile and make your teeth look perfect again!

What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are tooth-coloured shells that are custom made for each patient. They are then put on the front of the tooth by bonding so that you come out with a perfect smile.

At Canmore Smiles, Dr. Grant Moldenhauer and Dr. Brian Piercy use only the best materials to create the best porcelain veneers to fit your smile. Their procedure consists of two visits to complete the whole process, as they will take a mold of the teeth and send it to a laboratory where professionals will make your custom veneers.

Bonding or Veneers?

Many people don't know the difference between dental bonding vs veneers; this is because there is only a small difference in the procedure. In dental bonding, the dentist will apply a bonding liquid to the tooth before the resin colour to match your teeth. Bonding can be used to fix an abnormality with a tooth, such as a chip.

On the other hand, veneers can fix a host of problems - including the yellowing of your teeth, which bonding can not do.

Lifespan and Cost

Veneers have an impressive lifespan of about 10 to 15 years if you take care of them correctly. This means being on top of brushing daily, flossing frequently, and rinsing with mouthwash. Veneers can resist stains, but it is always good to try to cut down on food and drinks that could discolour the teeth.

Dental veneers costs range because it depends on how many teeth you are getting veneers for and what materials will be used.

Right now, with COVID-19, the Canadian government has given strict guidelines for dentists to follow.

There is a new screening process that has been put in place at our office, which includes a COVID-19 questionnaire and taking your temperature as you enter and leave the office. Appointment times will now be spread out further to make sure social distancing is followed, as well as to make sure the dental team has time to disinfect the office between each appointment. All of these procedures, and more, have been put in place for your safety, as well as ours.
