Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments: What to Expect

Many people find that their teeth become discoloured as they age. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including smoking and regularly drinking wine, tea or coffee. Certain medications can also discolour your teeth. If you want to whiten your teeth, Canmore Smiles can help. Here’s what you should know about the professional teeth whitening treatments we offer.

Professional whitening

The whitening treatments dentists offer provide superior results and have fewer risks than drugstore options. This is because whether you choose a take-home treatment or an in-clinic procedure, professional whitening treatments are designed to work with your unique set of teeth.

If you’re dissatisfied with the colour of your teeth, a professional whitening treatment provided by a dentist can help you achieve a brighter, whiter smile. It’s a simple, safe and non-invasive procedure that almost anyone can get.

Day White: a take home option

Day White is a take-home treatment that can result in whiter teeth in less than two weeks. Before you start the treatment, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and prepare your custom tray. You’ll be instructed to fill the tray with the Day White solution and wear it over your teeth twice a day for 30 minutes at a time. You won’t be able to eat, drink, or smoke during this time.

Afterwards, you’ll need to rinse your mouth and clean the trays thoroughly. Any pre-existing conditions such as gum disease must be tended to before starting the whitening treatment.

Zoom: an in-clinic treatment

Zoom is an in-clinic teeth whitening option. It’s a safe, fast-acting procedure that treats all your teeth at once and even removes stains on restorations like crowns and veneers.

Before the treatment, your dentist will thoroughly clean your teeth. You’ll then be given special glasses and splashguards to wear during the treatment.

During the procedure, a whitening gel will be applied to your teeth, then activated by a halide light. The gel will remain on your teeth for three rounds of 15 minutes each.

As with Day White, any decay or gum disease must be treated before having this procedure done.
